Roman Fields Update

An update on a few things following the meeting in the Angel and Guy’s subsequent correspondance with the developers. I met with Miller Homes, Lumsden Carroll & senior NCC planning officers on site to discuss some of the issues and I have also been in contact with the highways department at NCC.

1. 📮Post box – I’ve been in touch with Royal Mail who are considering the request against their statutory requirement to have a post box within 1/2 mile of 98% properties. A collections planning manager will do an assessment. If it meets that criteria then they will liaise with the council on location. I’ll update everybody when I know more but they say this process can take 25 weeks.

2. 💦Water run off – Miller Homes say that the land levels adjacent to Synclen Avenue, Milwell and Kiln View are less than a foot higher than they were – residents who live there say it’s 4 to 5 feet and there is no doubt water run off issues have been worsened by the development. NCC have asked them to look into the issues around water run off and over-looking and come back with some proposals. They have been chased for that.

3. 🛣️Roads and Pavements – Miller Homes are keen to get on with finishing it off because they have a large bond deposited with NCC. Their explanation for the delay is because the issue above is unresolved and they do not want to lay new surfaces if they have to take wagons in and out to remove earth. I’ll keep pushing for this to be resolved as soon as possible.

4. 🚮Bin near the Middle School – the Parish Council have agreed to install one where two young civic minded residents have been taping bags. NCC have been out to assess the location for collection and the bin will be installed soon.

5. SUDS pond – the pond is designed to be a dry pond and will only fill with water in extreme weather events and so no fence will be installed around it.

6. Water in play area – Miller Homes have agreed to take a look at this and I will provide a further update when I have it.

7. 🌳Landscaping – I will continue discussions about this. In some cases residents may wish for lawns in areas where wild borders and shrubs have been agreed in the original planning permission and there will be nothing I can do about that. When the management compay for the estate is set up residents may wish to consider their options then subject to any necessary planning consents.

I will provide further updates on these and other issues as I get them but in meantime please contact me directly at nick.oliver24@outlook.com if you have any questions.
